The Karlsson Modern Cuckoo Clock takes a nostalgic idea and strips it back to something clean, graphic and easy to live with. In place of dark carved timber and painted flowers, you get a simple house-shaped silhouette, an open face with straight hands and a swinging pendulum. On the hour, a small bird pops out of the cuckoo window, which is picked out in an accent colour, and birdsong plays. The sound switches itself off between 10pm and 5am, and if you would rather keep things quiet during the day too, it can be turned off altogether while the clock keeps time.
