Bed Linen

Bed linen is the one thing in the house you touch every single night, which makes it a strange place to economise. Good cotton softens with washing rather than pilling, holds its colour, and still looks right after two years of being slept in.

Build it in layers. A fitted sheet that actually stays on, a duvet cover in a weave you like against your skin, pillowcases that match or deliberately do not, and a quilt folded across the end for the nights that turn cold. Keep the palette narrow and let the texture do the work.

What does Oeko-Tex certified mean?
It means the fabric has been tested for harmful substances and passed. For anything that spends the night against skin it is a useful thing to look for, and most of our Bengali Collections bedding carries it.

Why jersey cotton?
Jersey is knitted rather than woven, so it has a little stretch, it does not need ironing and it softens rather than wears out. It also goes on a mattress without a fight at ten o'clock at night.

What size are euro pillowcases?
Euro pillowcases are 60 x 60cm and sit upright at the back of the bed behind your standard pillows. They are the quickest way to make a bed look finished without buying anything else.

How do I layer a bed so it looks styled?
Start with a plain fitted sheet, add a duvet in a textured fabric, then fold a quilt or throw across the bottom third. Finish with two pillows and one or two cushions in the same palette rather than a full stack.
