Scandinavian design has outlasted every trend that tried to replace it, and the reason is not the look. It is the thinking. Light over clutter, function before decoration, and materials that age rather than date. A Scandi room is not empty, it is edited.

The palette does most of the work: white and off-white walls, pale timber, black as a full stop rather than a theme, and texture doing the job that colour does elsewhere. Wool, linen, ceramic, concrete. The result is a room that feels calm at seven in the morning and still feels calm at nine at night, which in a New Zealand light is easier said than done.
