Lighting is the fastest way to change how a room feels and the slowest thing most people get around to. A single ceiling light flattens everything under it. Two or three smaller sources at different heights do the opposite, and you do not need an electrician to get there.

Night Lights

Most of what we stock is portable or plug-in: rechargeable touch lamps that move from the desk to the bedside, sculptural table lamps that read as objects even when switched off, pendant shades for when you are ready to commit, and soft night lights for children's rooms. There are a few decorative neon and LED pieces too, for walls that need something other than art.

If you are starting from one overhead light, add a table lamp first. Put it in the corner you look at most, keep the bulb warm rather than white, and the room will feel finished before you have bought anything else.

What colour bulb should I use at home?
Warm white, around 2700K, for living rooms and bedrooms, as it reads softer and flatters skin and timber. Save cooler light, 4000K and up, for task areas like a laundry or garage.

Do I need an electrician to install a pendant light?
A hardwired pendant should be installed by a licensed electrician. Our Plug-In Pendant Light, with a 2m or 3m cord and an E27 fitting, avoids that: hang the shade from a hook and plug it into the wall.

What is the difference between a rechargeable and a plug-in lamp?
Rechargeable lamps like the LED Tilt, the Mushroom Lamp and the Hampton lantern run without a cord, so they move from desk to bedside to outdoor table. Plug-in lamps stay put but never need charging, which suits a living room corner.

How high should a pendant hang over a dining table?
Leave about 75 to 85cm between the tabletop and the bottom of the shade, and choose a shade roughly half to two thirds the width of the table. Our linen and paper pendant shades range from 43cm to 85cm.
