About Flux Boutique

Flux Boutique is an independent homewares and interior design store at 270 Maunganui Road, Mount Maunganui. We have been here since 2013, stocking furniture, lighting, décor, fragrance and gifts for homes across the Bay of Plenty and, through our online store, the rest of New Zealand.

The look we are drawn to sits somewhere between Scandinavian restraint and the salt air of the coast we live on. Natural textures, quiet palettes, and pieces chosen because they are made well enough to stay. Nothing in store is there to fill a shelf.

Founded by a Designer and a Furniture Maker

Flux was founded by interior designer Emma Walsh and her husband, furniture maker Josh Speeden, out of a shared love of design, craftsmanship and the hunt for a good piece.

Emma's background in Architectural Design (B.Arch) and Interior Design (Dip.Int.Des) shaped what Flux became: a considered collection of furniture, home décor, lighting and gifts from local and international makers, chosen with an eye for proportion, material and how a piece will look in five years rather than five months.

There is no buying team behind that. Every item in the store was selected by Emma, and when you email us or walk through the door, she is the one you are talking to.

A Store for Real Life, Not a Showroom

We believe your surroundings should change as you do. A seasonal refresh, one considered new piece, or a full room rethink. None of it needs to be expensive, and most of it is simpler than people expect.

The boutique and the online store are updated weekly, so what has just landed is genuinely new. Each piece is chosen for quality, longevity and its ability to sit comfortably in a calm, cohesive home, alongside things you already own and love.

Interior Design Services

Need a hand pulling a space together? Emma offers interior design and styling support for projects large and small, from a single room update to a full house.

Custom Furniture and Restoration

Have an idea for a piece that does not exist yet, or something well made that deserves another life? Emma and Josh take on custom furniture and restoration projects together, pairing design work with the skill to actually build it.

These projects are approached slowly and collaboratively, and they are usually more achievable than people assume. Start with an email and a photo.

Why a Small Shop Still Matters

An independent shop of this size does not survive by accident, and the past few years have been the hardest we have had. Every order placed with Flux goes to one household rather than a distribution centre, and it is the reason we are still on Maunganui Road. The store holds a curated selection of the online range, styled in real settings so you can see the scale and feel the finish before you commit. If there is something specific you want to see, email us a few days ahead and we will have it waiting.

Gift wrapping is complimentary on every order, in store and online, and our gift picks are a good place to start if you are stuck.

Do you ship across New Zealand?
Yes. Shipping is free on orders over $100, excluding large items, and we ship nationwide including rural addresses. Orders to Australia are quoted individually, so email us before you order. Full details are on our shipping and returns page.

Is everything from the website available in store?
No. The store carries a curated selection rather than the full online range. Contact us a few days ahead if you want to view something specific.

Do you offer interior design help?
