Faux Foliage & Branches

Greenery with staying power. Eucalyptus and gum stems, magnolia and olive branches, berry sprays, ferns and grasses, ready to fill a vase or soften a shelf without a drop of water.

Foliage is what makes an arrangement convincing. Flowers get the attention, but it is the greenery around them that gives an arrangement its shape and stops it reading as a bunch of stems pushed into a jar. Used on its own, a handful of eucalyptus or olive in a heavy vase is one of the quickest ways to finish a room.

Buy more than you think you need. Three stems look sparse in anything larger than a bud vase, and most vessels want five to nine before they look full. Bend every stem before it goes in, because the wire inside is there to be used and straight-from-the-box symmetry is what gives faux away.

Single flower stems sit in Faux Flowers, ready-made arrangements in Faux Bouquets & Bunches, and the vessel to put them in is over in Vases.

How many stems do I need for one vase?
Five to nine for a standard vase, three for a bud vase, and more than you expect for anything wide-necked. Odd numbers sit better than even ones, and mixing two or three different stems reads more naturally than one repeated.

Can I cut faux stems shorter?
Most have an internal wire that cuts with florist snips or wire cutters, not scissors. Cut from the bottom, a little at a time, and hold the stem against the vase before you commit.

What is the difference between foliage and faux flowers?
Foliage is the green: leaves, branches, ferns, grasses and berries. Faux Flowers is where the blooms are. Most good arrangements use both, with roughly twice as much foliage as flower.

Will they fade?
Over time, in harsh all-day sun, most faux foliage slowly loses colour. Keep it in bright indirect light rather than a north-facing windowsill and it holds its colour for years.
