Night Lights

A night light has one job at three in the morning and a second job for the other twenty three hours, which is why most of them are a compromise. The ones here are chosen so that the object is worth looking at in daylight rather than being hidden behind a curtain until dark.

Warm light matters more than brightness. A dim warm glow is easier to settle beside and easier to leave on than a cool white one, and a dimmable light means the same lamp works for a newborn, a toddler and a child who reads late.

Can a night light be left on all night?
The dimmable ones are designed to be. Set them to their lowest warm setting, which gives enough light to find a cot without waking anyone properly.

Are they rechargeable or mains powered?
The range covers both. The rechargeable models can be carried between rooms and taken away, which is the practical advantage over a plug-in. Power type is listed on each product page.

What size suits a nursery?
A smaller lamp on a drawers top is usually plenty for a cot room. The larger figures work better in a bedroom where they double as a floor light and a character in the room.

Do they make good gifts?
They are one of the safer nursery gifts, because almost nobody buys themselves a nice one, and they stay in use well past the baby years.
