Candle Care with The Aromatherapy Co

Improve the aroma, look and burn time of your candle a few small adjustments to your burning ritual.

Always trim your wick

Always trim your wickBefore lighting your candle (on every burn), trim the wick to approx. 5mm and remove all of the loose burnt pieces from the top.

This will prevent your wick forming a mushroom shape and producing excess soot build up inside your glass. It will also keep your candle burning evening and at the right rate to ensure the perfect fragrance bloom.

If your wick appears to be producing smoke at any time and isn’t in a draught, the wick may need trimming. Extinguish the flame, trim the wick and relight.

Candle safety

Candle safety

A burning candle will get hot. Always burn a candle at least 10cm away from flammable objects and surfaces.

Keep a burning candle away from drafts, open air vents, ceiling fans & open windows as this can make a candle burn more rapidly.

Always remember to keep out of children’s and pet’s reach and never leave a child or pet alone in a room with a burning candle.

Avoid moving a candle while it is burning or while the wax is liquid.

Spend time with your candle

Spend time with your candle

Make sure that the first burn is approx. 3 hours minimum allowing the wax to melt to create a large pool towards the edge of the container.

If you don’t allow your candle to burn long enough to create a large wax pool, on every subsequent burn the wick might ‘tunnel’ down into the wax causing ongoing problems with lighting and burning evenly.

Don't burn a candle for too long

Don't burn a candle for too long

Burning your candle for too long, can cause excesive heat build up inside the glass, and create soot. It is also a safety hazard.

Do not exceed the burn time mentioned on the box, and never leave a candle unattended.

Extinguish the flame when there is about 10mm wax is left, burning the candle too low is a safety hazard.
