Solid shampoo bars for dry, oily and sensitive scalps, alongside fragranced shampoo and conditioner in bottle and refill sizes. A simpler shelf, with less plastic on it.

A shampoo bar is a shampoo with the water taken out, which is why it lasts so much longer than the bottle it replaces and why it travels without a leak. The adjustment takes a wash or two: work it into wet hair or between your hands first, and rinse for longer than feels necessary.

Match the bar to the scalp rather than the hair. Dry, oily and sensitive are the three we stock, and choosing by scalp is what stops a bar feeling either waxy or stripping. Hard water can leave a film on the first few washes, which settles.

If you would rather stay with a bottle, the fragranced shampoo and conditioner come in refill sizes, so the bottle on the shelf keeps going. Those sit with the rest in Home & Body Refills.

How do I use a shampoo bar?
Wet your hair, then either rub the bar directly on the scalp or work it into a lather in your hands first. Rinse for longer than you would a liquid shampoo, since it is easy to leave some behind.

How long does a bar last?
Considerably longer than a standard bottle, because there is no water in it. Keeping it on a draining dish rather than in the path of the shower is what makes the difference.

Which bar should I choose?
Choose by scalp, not by hair length. Dry, oily and sensitive are the three options, and picking the wrong one is the usual reason a bar feels waxy or stripping.

Do I still need conditioner?
Most people do, particularly with longer hair. A bar cleans the scalp well but does little for the ends, so a conditioner or a leave-in is still worth having.
