Modern Mallorca borrows from the Mediterranean without the terracotta cliche. Think whitewashed walls, deep shade, and the particular quality of light that makes a plain plaster surface interesting. It is coastal, but it is nothing like nautical.

The materials are sun-bleached and honest: chalky ceramics, olive and sand, raw linen, pale timber, aged stone and the occasional flash of cobalt. Shape carries the room, so a curved vase and a hand-thrown bowl do more work than any pattern would. It suits a New Zealand summer house almost too well.
