Every good arrangement starts with green, and hydrangea leaves are some of the most generous foliage there is. Broad, oval and finely serrated at the edges, they fan out from a slim branching stem in two tones of green, from deep forest through to a fresh new-growth lime at the tips.

On its own it looks like a cut branch from the garden. Tucked beneath blooms, it does the quiet work of filling gaps and giving flowers something to sit against. You might also see it called hortensia leaf, hydrangea foliage or hydrangea greenery.

How do I use foliage in an arrangement?

Put the greenery in first. Two or three leaf sprays create a loose framework in the vase, then the flowers slot in between and stay where you put them.

Will it look good on its own?

Yes. A few stems alone in a tall glass or ceramic vase make a calm, leafy arrangement that suits Japandi and coastal interiors, especially where flowers would feel like too much.

A practical, well-priced gift for anyone who likes to style their own flowers, or a thoughtful add-on to a vase as a housewarming present. More ideas in housewarming gifts.

Why You'll Love It

  • Broad, serrated leaves in natural tones of green
  • Branching stem that fills a vase quickly
  • Works as a base for flowers or alone
  • Easy, affordable way to add greenery to any room

Making It Work in Small Spaces

In a smaller home, a single stem in a slim bud vase on a bookshelf or bathroom ledge brings in green without taking up surface space. Pair it with a hydrangea bloom from our faux flowers range for a classic combination, or mix it with other greenery from faux foliage and branches.

What it comes down to

The Hydrangea Leaf Spray is a 106cm faux foliage stem with broad, serrated hydrangea leaves on branching side stems. It works as the green base beneath flowers or alone in a tall vase, and suits Japandi, coastal and everyday styling.
