Be Happy by Dr Rebecca Ray | Live Well Wellbeing Book

In stock
Sale price$35.00

Happiness books tend to fall into two camps, the ones long on encouragement and short on method, and the ones that read like a textbook. Be Happy lands usefully between them, largely because Dr Rebecca Ray has spent more than a decade as a clinical psychologist and writes accordingly.

The book is organised around four ideas: choosing to focus on what is good rather than what is hard, cultivating a kinder inner voice, practising focused work instead of scattered multitasking, and making room for difficulty rather than shutting down when it arrives. Thirty-five methods sit underneath those, drawn from Positive Psychology and Acceptance and Commitment Therapy. Ray is based in Australia and writes the Happi Habits blog and courses. This is volume one of Rock Point's Live Well series.

How much time does it ask for?

Very little, which is the point. The methods are short and designed to slot into an existing routine rather than replace it, so it suits someone who has picked up bigger self-help books and quietly abandoned them.

Is it evidence-based?

The two frameworks it draws on, Positive Psychology and ACT, are both established and widely used in clinical practice. It remains a general wellbeing book rather than treatment, but the grounding is real rather than decorative.

At a modest price it makes a good small gift, whether for a friend having a hard stretch, someone starting something new, or as an addition to a larger present. It pairs well with the Hold The Moments Journal if you want somewhere to write alongside it, and sits within our wellbeing gift range.

Why You'll Love It

  • Thirty-five short, practical methods rather than general encouragement
  • Written by a clinical psychologist of more than ten years
  • Grounded in Positive Psychology and Acceptance and Commitment Therapy
  • Designed to fit an existing routine rather than demand a new one
  • A compact hardcover at an easy gifting price

How to Use It

Work one method at a time rather than reading straight through, and give each a week or so before moving on. It is small enough for a bedside table or a bag, and the soft pink and white cover sits comfortably with candles, ceramics and other small gifts if you are assembling something for someone.
