Fine, feathery, almost weightless looking. The asparagus fern is one of those plants that photographs as a green cloud rather than a set of leaves, and in a small 22cm pot it gives a shelf softness without adding bulk.

Asparagus fern, foxtail fern, lace fern, plumosa fern and Asparagus setaceus cover the same family. It is not a true fern, which explains why the real one behaves so differently from one, shedding needles all over a shelf when it dries out. This version does not shed, and it is UV protected, so it also handles a bright windowsill or a covered outdoor ledge that would bleach an untreated faux plant. It layers beautifully with the smaller pieces across our Faux Plants range.

Can it go outside?
In a covered spot, yes. The UV protected foliage holds its colour far longer than a standard faux plant, so a sheltered porch shelf or a covered courtyard ledge is fine. Full unshaded sun all day is not.

The pot is small at 9cm across, which makes it one of the easiest pieces to place and to gift. Slip it into a ceramic cup or a small footed bowl and it lifts immediately. It is a lovely small thank you gift and a good addition to a hamper, which makes it a genuinely useful thing to have on hand. See more in Home Decor.

Why You'll Love It

  • Fine feathery foliage that reads as a soft green cloud
  • Trails gently over a shelf edge or a pot rim without dominating
  • UV protected, so it holds colour on a bright sill or a covered ledge
  • No needle shedding, which is the real asparagus fern's worst habit
  • Small, easy to gift or add to a hamper

Styling the Shelf

  • Set it near an edge so a little foliage can spill over
  • Drop the pot into a ceramic cup, an eggcup sized vessel or a small footed bowl
  • Use it as the soft element between two hard edged objects
  • Group three at different heights for a windowsill run

Product Details

  • Height: 22cm
  • Pot: 8cm high, 9cm diameter, plain black plastic
  • UV protected foliage
  • Suitable for indoor use and covered outdoor spots

Is it delicate?
The foliage looks fine but is sturdier than it appears. Fluff it out by hand after unpacking and it holds its shape.

In essence

The Asparagus Fern is a 22cm UV protected faux trailing plant with fine feathery foliage in a small pot. It softens shelves and windowsills, does not shed the way the real plant does, and works as a small gift or hamper addition.
