A Year of Living Happily by Lois Blyth | Wellbeing Book

In stock
Sale price$45.00

Happiness gets written about endlessly and defined rarely, which is part of why it can feel so slippery. Lois Blyth starts by saying plainly what it is and what it is not, then spends the rest of the book on what you might actually do about it.

A Year of Living Happily is structured as fifty-two weekly prompts and activities, one for each week of the year, illustrated throughout with around a hundred colour artworks across 192 pages. Blyth draws on research into wellbeing, including how habits of attention and connection shape mood over time, and turns it into small practical exercises rather than abstract advice. The weekly format is the useful part. It asks for a little attention at a time instead of a wholesale change of life.

Do I have to start in January?

No. The weeks are not tied to dates, so you can begin whenever the book arrives and simply work through in order. Plenty of people dip in and out rather than following it strictly, which works perfectly well.

Is it a journal or a book to read?

Closer to a workbook. There is reading in it, but the activities are the substance, and it suits someone who wants something to do rather than something to think about. If you would prefer a pure writing space alongside it, the Hold The Moments Journal pairs well.

At a smaller price point than most of our books it makes an easy thoughtful gift, particularly for someone starting a new year, a new job, or simply a new chapter. It sits within our wellbeing gift range and the wider Books collection.

Why You'll Love It

  • Fifty-two weekly prompts and activities, one for each week
  • Around one hundred colour artworks across 192 pages
  • Grounded in wellbeing research rather than platitudes
  • Start any time of year and work through at your own pace
  • An accessible price for a considered gift

How to Use It

Keep it somewhere you will see it at the same time each week, a bedside table or a kitchen shelf, and treat one prompt as the whole commitment. A pen tucked into the flap makes it far more likely to be used. As a paperback with flaps it is lighter than most of our books, so it travels well and suits a bag as readily as a shelf.
