Small ceramics do a disproportionate amount of work in a room, and the Sahara Ceramic Tray is one of the pieces we reach for most. Finished in a soft sand-toned reactive glaze, each tray carries its own variation in tone and texture, so no two arrive quite the same.

At 23cm across and 4.5cm high it sits low and unassuming. Use it to anchor a coffee table vignette, corral the bits and pieces on a bathroom counter, or give a candle and a small vase somewhere considered to sit. It pairs particularly well with the rest of our tray collection and the wider ceramics range.

What is it made from?

Glazed ceramic with a speckled sand finish and a slightly tactile surface. The reactive glaze means natural variation in colour and texture is part of the piece rather than a fault.

Is it food safe?

We recommend it as a decorative and catch-all tray rather than a serving dish. Wipe it clean with a damp cloth, and avoid soaking it or putting it through the dishwasher.

What actually fits on it?

More than you would think. A candle and a matchbox, a stack of rings beside a small dish, a bottle of hand wash and a folded flannel, or a low vase holding a few stems.

As a gift it works for the person who is genuinely hard to buy for. It suits a housewarming, a first Mother's Day, or a thank you for the friend whose house already looks finished, and it is easy to build a small bundle around with a candle or hand cream from our gift ideas for the home.

Why You'll Love It

  • It disappears into any palette. Sand and speckle sit comfortably against white, clay, oak or black without asking for attention.
  • No two are the same. The reactive glaze pools and shifts differently on every piece, so yours has its own markings.
  • It earns its place daily. This is not an object that sits pretty and does nothing. It holds keys, rings, candles, remotes and the small clutter that has nowhere else to go.
  • It layers well. Low enough to sit under taller pieces, wide enough to group two or three things without crowding.
  • Easy to give. A considered, unfussy gift that suits almost any home.

Where It Lives Best

  • Set it on a coffee table with a candle, a folded book and something with a bit of height.
  • On a bathroom counter, use it to gather hand wash, a small dish and a folded flannel so the surface reads deliberate rather than accumulated.
  • By the bed or on an entry console, it becomes the landing spot for rings, keys and reading glasses.
  • Group it with a contrasting texture for depth. A round marble tray beside it gives the eye somewhere to move.

Also In These Images

The tray is photographed on Chanel Catwalk, with the cluster of pale cubes beside it our Cubism Sculpture. In the side table shots it sits alongside our Tulip Bouquet, on a stack of LifeStyled and Minimalista.

What it comes down to

The Sahara Ceramic Tray is a 23cm glazed ceramic tray in a speckled sand finish, made for catch-all and decorative use rather than serving. Its reactive glaze gives every piece a slightly different tone and texture. It suits coffee tables, bathroom counters, entry consoles and bedsides, and makes a straightforward gift for housewarmings and thank yous.
