How do I stop a black and white room feeling cold?
Bring in texture and warmth rather than colour: a wool rug, linen shades, a timber side table or a matte ceramic. Warm white bulbs help too. The Flokati rug and linen pendant shades in this edit are good starting points.

Should monochrome decor be matte or gloss?
Mix both. Matte black ceramics like the Bernie vase absorb light and read soft, while glass and glossy glazes reflect it. Two finishes in each colour keep a monochrome scheme from looking flat.

Is a black mirror frame too heavy for a small room?
Not if the walls are white. A thin black frame, like the Crane or Ned Collections round mirrors, outlines the glass and ties in with black furniture. In a small room, choose a slimmer frame and a larger mirror.

Can I add one colour to a monochrome scheme?
Yes, one is plenty. Green from a plant or stem works best because it reads as natural rather than decorative. Keep it to a single accent so the black and white still leads.
