Gold works best as punctuation. One piece on a shelf catches the light and warms everything around it; five pieces and the shelf starts to look like a jewellery counter. The trick is restraint, and choosing clean shapes so the finish does the talking.

Can I mix gold and silver decor?
You can, but it works best with a clear lead. Let one metal dominate the room and use the other once or twice as an accent. Repeating the same metal in at least two places makes the choice look deliberate.

What colours go with gold decor?
White, black, cream and warm timber all let gold stand out without competing. Deep green and navy work too. Avoid crowding it with other warm metals like copper in the same view, or the gold loses its edge.

How do I clean a gold-finish tray?
Wipe it with a soft, damp cloth and dry it straight away. Skip abrasive scourers and harsh cleaners, which can dull or scratch a plated or electroplated finish over time.
