A plant is the fastest way to make a room feel finished, and the pot is the reason it either works or looks like a garden centre. The plant is temporary. The planter is the decor.
Scale is where most people go wrong. The pot should be roughly a third of the total height, and a plant that looks right in the shop will look small in a corner. Group in odd numbers at varying heights, repeat one material across the room, and let at least one trail. If the light is bad or you travel, faux stems and potted plants do the same job without the guilt.
Our plants and planters range covers indoor planters and pots, hanging planters, plant stands, faux plants and trees, and potted greenery. Style them in threes, and let the pot do as much work as the plant.
Do I need a drainage hole in my planter?
For real plants, yes, or use a plastic nursery pot inside a decorative planter so water can drain and you can tip out the excess. Faux plants need no drainage at all, so any vessel will do.
How do I clean faux plants?
Dust them every few weeks with a soft brush, a microfibre cloth or a hairdryer on cool. For a deeper clean, wipe the leaves with a damp cloth and let them dry fully, and avoid soaking fabric petals.
Which faux plants suit a hanging planter?
Trailing styles work best: String of Tears, Crescent Hanging Succulent, Philodendron Micans Hanging Bush and the Variegated Pothos Hanging Bush all spill over the edge. Hang at eye level or just above so the trail is seen.
How much bigger than the plant should a pot be?
For real plants, choose a pot about 2 to 5cm wider than the root ball, so it has room to grow without sitting in wet soil. Go bigger than that and the extra soil stays damp for too long.
